November 4th, 2011

Of course we started our week off celebrating Halloween on Monday and then All Saint's Day on Tuesday.  View the pictures at the end of the blog to see our creative and scary costumes.

Religion:  Continued our sacrament study and are prepared to present our work on Monday,  We attended a special prayer service to give thanks to God.  We have completed learing about when we sing at Mass and the importance of the Gloria, Amen, and what it means to pray.

Math:  Area and Perimeter calculations and quiz

Social Studies:  Early explorers, including a focused work on perspectives on Christopher Columbus

Science:  We started our Physical Science unit on Sound=waves and vibrations

Language Arts:  Completion of Sign of the Beaver, focus groups on the reading strategy of looking for main ideas and supporting details.  We now have guided reading groups that work on breaking down every story to practice. Writing on our Halloween weekend for main ideas and details as well as in sequence. Spelling - contractions quiz.

4th grade and Student Council have started a shoe drive for Africa.  Please look at the insert in this Friday's folders that explains the event

On Monday, I will have a pre-conference packet to preview before we meet on either November 15th or November 17th.  We are implementing strategic interventions in reading comprehension and test preparation to help students improve their understanding of material they read-especially in the areas of non fiction.
