Week of December 5th
Dear Families,
Another amazing fifth grade week has ended. After Saint Nicholas, pajama day, concert practice, and Secret Santa Shopping, we still squeezed in all of our necessary learning.
Several students have asked to exchange gifts, however, I declined this option. Instead, we will celebrate Christmas on the 22nd on our early dismissal day and enjoy the surprise I have planned.
We have our Read It to Beat It field trip on Tuesday, December 20th. More information will be forthcoming next week.
Next week: Choir concert : Tuesday, December 13th at 2:00 p.m. and 6:30 p.m. Students should report to their classrooms no earlier than 6:00 p.m. after they remove their coats and leave them in the coat room in the gathering space.
Early Dismissal 1:20 on Friday, December 16th due to a faculty meeting.
A stomach virus is circulating throughout schools in our area. Please keep your child home if they are feeling ill so we can prevent this from spreading. I will always work with your child to make sure they learn all that they would miss. We have been sanitizing our desks and reminding about handwashing.
Progress reports came home today. Remember that these scores are an average of homework, projects, and assessments. Retake information is found in the unique comment section on Standard Score.
Religion: Immaculate Conception of Mary Mass on Thursday. Father Pat conducted Reconciliation on Wednesday. We have started the last chapter in Unit 1 which is Chapter 4, on the importance of sacramentals.
Math: Division with one and two digit divisors-whew! we made it! Next up: Decimals :)
Science: Light : Reflection & Refraction. Students are completing study guides for the material. I will test sometime before Christmas on this unit. We have several more experiments to do yet.
Social Studies: Chapter 5: Settlement of the North American Colonies
Guided Reading: Working on meaning of vocabulary words
Art: Sacramental piece
Grammar: Verb agreement
Stay tuned: A new format for St. Matt's website is coming within a few weeks. I may have to change how I communicate with you.
Have a wonderful and healthy weekend.
Love,
Mrs. Luther
