St. Matthew's is a K4 - 8 Catholic school with a traditional approach to education. The basics are covered on a daily basis, using current teaching methods and technology, such as SmartBoards.There is one class per grade. 4K has a maximum of 22 students, 5K has a maximum of 25 students, Grades 1-8 have a maximum of 30 students. St. Matthew School is accredited through the Wisconsin Religious and Independent Schools Accreditation (WRISA) and the Archdiocese of Milwaukee.
Our doors open at 8:20 a.m. with classes beginning at 8:30 a.m. The school day ends at 3:20 p.m.
Our value-based curriculum offers Religion, Reading, Math, Science, Spelling, Phonics, Handwriting, Social Studies, Music, Art, Phy Ed., and Computers. Pre-Algebra and Algebra are offered in the Middle School. Foreign language is also offered in 8th Grade through the Oak Creek School District.
Students go to mass once a week, usually on Fridays. Mass is also offered on a daily basis and we want families to attend services on Sunday. We are able to use one Mass time per week as instructional time in religion. Religion is taught on a daily basis, but is lived every moment.
All Faculty members are licensed by the State of Wisconsin. Our faculty consists of both experienced and new teachers which creates a diverse staff using both tried and true methods along with new techniques. We have specialty teachers in Music, Phy Ed, and Computers. Our students visit our library weekly. Our staff also includes a tutor and two classroom aides.
If you live in the Oak Creek-Franklin school district there is free bus service to and from school.
Yes, our Extended Care Program is open at 6:30am and has pick-up until 6:00pm. It is run by the school at a reasonable cost.
Absolutely, we are here to learn and clothes and styles can be a distraction. Basically, boys are expected to wear navy blue or khaki colored uniform pants with with a white, red, or blue polo-type shirt. Girls can wear the same color shirts with pants or a uniform skirt or jumper. Complete expectations are in the Parent-Student Handbook. Uniforms are not required for K4 or K5 students.
We have an excellent, federally subsidized, hot lunch program. Our cooks prepare freshly made foods every day. Costs for lunch are: Child - $2.25 daily lunch (includes milk), .50 milk only, $11.25 weekly lunch (includes milk) Adult - $3.00 daily lunch (includes milk), $12.50 weekly lunch.
St. Matthew School is located in the southeast corner of Oak Creek. From Milwaukee - take I-94 South to Ryan Road. Go left(East) on Ryan about 4mi. to Chicago Rd. (Hwy 32) Left(North) on Chicago Rd. to our community.
Besides the parish supporting the school, families with additional needs may apply for tuition assistance. Students will not be turned away because of financial need.
Absolutely. Our students are involved in a number of Social Outreach Programs which include but are not limited to the following: visiting Franciscan Villa, parish sponsored programs such as the Heifer Project, Love Loaf, etc. In the past we have also participated in such programs as Jump Rope for Heart and St. Jude Math-A-Thon.
Grades 5K-8 have soccer and Scouts. Grades 5-8 can also get involved in league basketball, volleyball, cross country, and cheerleading. There is an active Student Council. Music lessons and choir are also available. In addition, Mad Science Classes are offered at various times throughout the school year.
The money is used by Home and School to purchase many of the things the school cannot afford. Fundraising requirements are a minimum of $100 profit per child, $200 for 2 children, with a $265 cap per family. If you chose not to participate in fundraising, there is a $200 per child non-participant fee. We have sold poinsettias, spring flowers, pizzas, kringles, magazines, etc.
